Barbara Grespi

Barbara Grespi is Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy “Piero Martinetti”, University of Milan, where she teaches Media Archaeology and Theories of the image in motion. Her research has explored, on various levels, the non-ocularcentric dimensions of optical media, such as photography, cinema, and more recently, extended realities. Her focus has been for a long time on gestures, on the theories of this concept and on its crucial role as an interface between the body and media technologies, from early cinematic machines to the era of wearable media. She hasalso studied still (and set) photography and is now focusing on postphotography in the algorithmic turn. She is affiliated member of the ERC project: AN-ICON. An-iconology: history, theory, and practices of environmental images.
